  • 1977 6x6 engine swap

I have a 1977 6x6 with a 16HP Tecumseh. I was thinking about upgrading the motor at some point so I have a little more power.
What would be a good replacement motor that wont require a lot of modifications?
I thought they made a 20 or 24 HP for the T base model.

    Thanks

Not sure there's anything pre made out there but a little time and a piece of plate should get you where you want to go

Nubs, have you set your body around the frame to check for clearance issues? Lookin good by the way. is that a 23?

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
      Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

About the same, 3" shorter without the air box.

Donverv, are you asking about a clutch that's tapered or non-tapered? The 2 strokes are tapered.

I am not sure of the weight of the honda engine. You would maybe want to get the weight of the original engine and çompare to the honda. If the original was a Tecumseh, you may not be to far out. For instance, the 23 Vanguard twin that I put in my 91 6x6 was far lighter than the 16 opposed Briggs twin. Also a smaller engine in structure so there is a lot more room to work around. The Honda engine would be a good power pack. I personally don't think it would make that much of a difference. I don't use me in water deep enough to actually get it to float.

I replaced my 18B&S with a 23B&S and no difference in floating. Height is more of a potential issue if you want to run with the hood installed.
