  • 16 hp briggs and stratton from the 70's

Hello, I need to replace the 17 hp twin kohler engine on my 1985 6x6 argo. I found a good deal on a couple of 16 hp briggs and Stratton motors from the 70's, complete with clutch and electric start. However, these are not vanguard motors, and are only 1 cylinder. Can anyone tell me how this motor will perform? How will it compare to the 17 hp twin kohler I had in the argo before (which is now scrap)?

    thankyou for reading

I had the Briggs 16HP single in an old Simplicity tractor. It was a torque monster, but I don't think it would be best suited for a "up and down" throttle application in an AATV.......it would do better running at a consistent RPM. I personally would wait and find a deal on a nice used Vanguard or Kohler Command 18+ HP.

This is bizarre, but I typed basically the exact message as JP, but I lost the message. The only difference was that I had it in a Sears Suburban 15 garden tractor.
