  • Valve clearance on Kohler 23

Anyone know clearances, my book only covers water cooled engines.

    Thanks Jim

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Jim that Koehler has hydraulic lifters. They will tick just a bit sometimes.

Hydraulic lifters are self adjusting and there should be no need to have to adjust them manually. Its a big selling point for Kohler.

            From page 77,

            2. Apply grease to contact surfaces of rocker arms and
rocker arm pivots. Install rocker arms and rocker arm
pivots on one cylinder head, and start two screws.
            3. Torque screws to 11.3 N·m (100 in. lb.). Repeat for
            other rocker arm.
            4. Use a spanner wrench or rocker arm lifting tool to lift
rocker arms and position push rods underneath.

Are your lifters tappets noisy ????????
              Most likely they are .
Kohler has had many different suppliers for the lifters . Although this is an issue the camshaft lobes are very soft and wear quickly .Depending upon age ,use and abuse changing the lifters fixes the occassional tick sound . The lifters are very very close to GM V8. Compare with a cam specialist .
With new after market lifters and a good oil with high zinc lifter ticking will no longer occur . zinc prevents wear .The cam lifter wear in an OHV engine is unique compared to OHC.Late model oils have few additives to protect lifter cam lobe wear in ohv .From memory most additives that are good are bad for your catalytic convertor [cause blockage etc ]
