  • Time for more power out of 18HP briggs

Alright so I know many people have done it. So I am looking for a 20hp intake and carb and need the best source to buy it from. I would post in the wanted section of this forum but why would someone want to get rid of one if they had one right. Actually looking for opinions on the best source for all of these parts. But carb and intake mostly

So here's what i'm looking to do. High rev kit, get rid of governor, valve springs, retainers, timing advanced, carb, intake, pro flow filter and so on. Any suggestions? Want to remain on 91 octane pump gas is my only stipulation. Would prefer to keep the recoil start also. I would love to do some sort of custom exhaust but uneasy about having exhaust inside the body of my machine if I went that route. I have an older top that allows limited space for custom exhaust. Not even sure if I could run the current internal "quiet" exhaust like admin mike has on his bandolero while running my older top. But i'll leave answering that to you guys.

So if FMINTS and others who have purchased there own 20 hp intake and carb and aftermarket parts could let me know where i'd appreciate it

      Nubs,

You are the man. thank you. And nice right up in your other post. I do need to elbow and the spacer for sure right? And what do you do about an air cleaner? Should I buy the one adapter from performance v-twins and run a regular filter?

If you buy the adapter from Performance V twins, it'll delete the governor, so unless your motor is built to handle the higher revs you might want to stick to a stock 2 barrell air cleaner housing.

You'll need the one I listed for sure and You'll also need the 691534 elbow if your gonna run the stock air box. the 691534 goes from the carb to air box

Sorry so late to respond to this thread, im currently in the bush playing army games. Nubs is so correct withe info he posted. I would stay with the stock air cleaner, they prove to give more power and torque than the aftermarket single small air filter for the briggs. You will surely need both elbows also to run a stock two barrel 20hp carb air cleaner assembly. Put a bolt,o-ring and nut to seal the governor hole and weld your own throttle linkage setup. I built mine and Cbass's so send Cbass an pm for pics, since im not near a computer to send them myself. You also will need a heavy duty high torque starter and the stock pull starter will not turn the engine over if compression is too high. But try it and see what you get, you might be able to get away with itsince you are not running a decked and bored block with shaved and ported heads. Good luck Surfer Dude!

I've had good luck with running the thin steel head gaskets with the stock starter as long as your using the stock cam W/compression releases. The hi torque starter is always a good investment cuz You'll be needin' it sooner er' later

Jpswift, I plan on running the high rev kit anywas for the stiffer valve springs keepers and pushrods so I am getting rid of the governor all together anyways but fmints says I should keep the stock airbox anyways so I am going to do that.

Thanks again nubs for the part number to the elbow I need. On that website I should just buy the entire 20hp carb assembly P/N 843323 correct? I won't need to by any individual pieces then?

Fmints, I am going to send CBass a PM right now for a picture of your guys throttle setup. Assuming that your using the stock throttle cable I hope so I can run the heated throttle cable? And I am going to try and stick with the stock starter for right now depending on the price of the high torque starter. I seen someone had posted a p/n not to long ago for that also

I'm thinking that I have a complete air box, you can have it if its still there.

                    I'll look in a bit

SO after running through all the parts lists and adding all the stuff I need to the "shopping cart" the total is in the high 600's..... thats including all nuts and bolts. Think i'd be better off calling local lawn mower shops and small engine shops and trying to find one someone blew up? Then I have to order the high rev kit and other misc. performance parts. Should I just save up and get a bandolero and sell this 18hp to offset the cost? whats everyone think. I do like the idea of building it myself but open to suggestions.

Now thats a good deal right there if you ask me. Thanks a lot snorth88. Thats like a $200 savings. Now I am back on topic to get this done. What filter does that come with. A regular automotive filter or does it retain a stock square air filter housing
