  • Kohler command 27hp (mods)?

Hello, I just got a kohler command 27hp to put in my max 4. I'm not familiar with kohler so I'm gonna ask, is there any mods that I should do to it before I install it? I just want to get all the power I can out of it... Thanx everyone... Norm...

    HI
    Kohler small block
    pros
large diameter lifter allows aggressive ramps on cam shaft
    large capacity 725 cc
    compression around 9,5 to 1
    good stock carb

    cons/negative
The crank main journal in block are not repairable easily [press sleeves into block ]
Factory head gaskets donot have a fire ring
=blown head gasket either into sump or externally .Replace with an aftermarket one .
Rockers pull the stud out of the cylinder head
Ignition coils fail by leaking spark out of the lead
The inlet manifolds leak vacumn upsetting the running [There are five different manifolds to try to fix this .]
The factory inlet manifold is squashed in shape to fit behind the cover ,this causes one cylinder to run hotter than the other .
The Nippon denso starters are junk and expensive ,most have the delco [tiawanese ].
Occasionally the trigger on the flywheel comes off

Well, the engine and tranny just arrived, I am so happy with it, they look like new. the sprockets on the t20 don't even have any wear. Guess I got lucky and found an honest person. Hopefully tonight the install will begin. I hope I can bolt the kohler the same as the briggs was. I'm having mud withdrawals!!!

Congrats for entering into another Horsepower Bracket !!!! 18 to 27,,, ohhh yeah, your going to feel the difference for sure. I would be thinking about splined axles in the future,,,, if you continue to ride like you normally do ( like a Bat out of Hell,,, lol!!) If you need any assistance with assembly let me know. I just ordered the sleeves for my T-20 from Grainger, and I need to do some boring, so I will be coming your way soon.

As for the "MUD WITHDRAWALS!!", I understand you totally. Looks like both of my machines will be down for a little bit. Karen's MaxIV needs trans bands and of course I'm sleeving the diamond shifter holes on the Hustlers T-20 ( Reverse is a necessity, from time to time). I may be able to get away with putting the Hustlers bands in Karens MaxIV, and send her bands off for relining, just so I'm not without a fully operational machine. I put the Hustler's Mudbugs on the MaxIV as well and I'm super anxious to try them out. I believe that they will swim on the IV!?!?!?!

Anyway,, I know the feeling you are experiencing, finally getting you much awaited parts!!! Congrats,, can't wait to ride!!!
