  • Throttle controls???

Right now I've got a foot feed throttle with a long rod to rear of my Muscateer. If I retain it when I swap the diesel in it will be moved forward considerably. However I am not sure how well it would work with the diesel. I may have to do some real custom bell cranks and so forth.

That being said, the diesel has a mechanical fuel shut off to stop the engine. It is in conjunction with the throttle lever and they are one and the same.

I'm thinking of some form of lever control similar to the throttle seen on push mowers with the turtle and the hair however with a gate so I have to go from OFF up and over to ON, then with a push of the lever it increases fuel rate just like foot feed but holds that RPM regardless.

I don't know if there is a combination setup I can use foot feed and hand throttle as described...but if anyone has any suggestions they are surely welcome.

If you need pictures of anything let me know.

Diesel is going in and SOON. Tomorrow I'm calling about keyway cutting on the PTO shaft, if it can get done that is damn near a go from that point forward.

There are a couple of small fuel leaks to contend with however I'm thinking I can handle those simple enough. I will also need a new starter too to get that beach to turn over fast enough to fire...old one is just plain tired!

Again any suggestions, or links to web sites etc appreciated.

    Thanks

    Al

Sounds like your looking for something like what is on every farm tractor (except the really old ones) I've ever driven... They usually have a lever to set the minimum rpm and a foot pedal for increasing. May google how they look/work.

I've got several farm tractors here.

Yes that's the basic idea but farm tractor stuff that I've seen won't transfer over as I had hoped, it was the tractors that gave me the idea in the first place

I would do away with the foot throttle entirely. That should net some additional floorboard space as well as simplifying the install.

A good hand throttle will do everything you need it to do. You will just have to set the limits carefully to allow it to idle at "no throttle" and adjust the upper limits from there. If you look in my gallery you will be able to see what I did with my Super Swamp Fox diesel. Basically I converted a bicycle brake cable and handle into the throttle assembly. The mechanism also controls the fuel shut off valve to turn the machine off.

I've seen similar conversions with Kubota diesels into go karts and dune buggies as well as in automobiles.

Not sure where YOUR gallery is sorry. I've considered a hand throttle however with the fact I have NO brakes on my rig...was not built with them, and I have to add a set I'm going to add a pair of these for independant control for each side

This would allow me to cut brake or use both..

With the slight bend in my sticks, I don't think I can add on a hand throttle on there and I've considered it a great deal. I've not seen a throttle I can add onto my sticks yet other than a twist one, which may work as an option thought I'm doubting that too as my grips start at the bend.

Foot feed seems to be what I have or I make two new sticks and change the bend location or make an inverted L for handles?? as I've seen on some machines.

If your bars are bent the hand, twist or thumb should work though with the hand or thumb you may have to add a small (1-2") extension to support the grip. The twist is self supporting.
Consider this which I think was what Noel was writing. Drill a second hole in the throttle stop which would allow on/off with it's own cable, then in the other hole the throttle cable. On/off cable should float, similar to some of the Ford,CIH,MF,JD etc. compacts, which are all Hinomoto, Mitsubishi,Yanmar, Shiabura etc tractors. Look at oics of early to mid 80's pictures which will all be pre solenoid controlled.
If you want to get fancy you could always put an electric dashpot on the throttle plate to control the on/off, if you can find the proper throw.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.

Here this may help out some...

Control sticks...at lower right of RIGHT stick is foot feed throttle,

                Foot feed...

Foot feed to rear of the tub...

Kinda just trying to improve on this with capability of both fixed throttle position and a variable throttle.

I suppose a setup like on this tractor could be fabbed up,

Thanks guys for the input, but not sure if my controls can handle a throttle or not, I've gotta find some to work with. The inverted brake levers are going on and so are some small discs on the 2 jack shafts that the transmission feeds power too that then goes out to each side.
