  • clutch problems

When I run my argo both clutches are spinning all the time, it makes it hard to get in gear and I don't want to break anything. I replaced the belt with a new one thought the belt was to tight but it seem to be loose that it should slip at an idle. im new to the argo so im not sure if this is normal but it don't seem right. I also cleaned the clutch faces with a scotch bight to shin them up. Not really sure of the problem any help??

Doesn't sound like an engine problem...so why in engines not sure but ok...

Is your idle to high and thus starting the clutch to engauge too soon? Can you clean the drive clutch inside? maybe it's sticking open?

With engine off and NOT RUNNING...is there room for the belt to spin on clutch without contact to both faces?

    Is belt too tight?

Just a few questions to look at. I'm new to these too so I hear ya!

This is a common problem, and is typically related to a higher than normal idle. Some folks live with it. Here's a thread (one of several) discussing the issue....

      Here's another good one:

Drop the idle, most people go off the B&S book which is way to high for any mfgr. of atvs as clutches engage at about 1200 or less. Unless of course your drive is stuck partially open.

I think the golden rule with tickover (as with many things in life) is as slow as possible but as high as necessary.
