  • Where to get a Briggs muffler

Hi guys, I was wondering where the best place is to get a Briggs 18 horse muffler for a Max IV. I called Briggs and looked on their site and nothing. Could this be a Max specific part?Any help would be much appreciated.

The later Briggs muffler was a max specific and the factory is out tried to get one for quite a while. I went to Briggs # 691562 and welded on extension pipe on it. I believe this is the muffler that was used in the mid to late 90s. Easy to find on eBay then make a heat shield for that fits on the brackets.

A big thank you all the way up to Fairbanks. Now that I know this maybe I'll cut the old one open and see what's rattling around in there restricting the exhaust. And see if there's enough to tig it back together. Thanks again.

Here's a news flash. I called the Recreatives number for a muffler and got an outfit in South Dakota who will be handling all Max parts and Argo as well. They will have a website up in about a month with all the Max parts on there that you can order on line. It will be called Max6x6.com. As for the muffler they are made to order and about $400.00. So I will be trying to fix mine. I was also told that Max Muddox farmed out all the Max parts to this place. It will be kinda handy to order parts on line.

Well I cut the muffler open and one set of baffles was broke beyond repair and restricting the flow. So I took it out and welded the thing shut ant to my surprise it's not louder than before.

Sure did. Now I should take that four hundred I saved and fill the ole LP tank while the rates are low. Just a reminder to you guys.

Hopefully a bit milder this year. Don't think it can get much worse than last year.
