  • Vanguard II Carb cleaning tuning

    Gi'day eh.
Haven't been on this site for awhile. My Argo which I bought brand new in
the fall of 1995 has been in storage for a few years. Unfortunately it wasn't
stored properly in regards to gas. So far, I have removed the tank for a thorough
cleaning, new fuel lines, filter. I got a new carb kit and am ready to clean it out.
    Anywho here is my question
According to the service manual I have to use a special tool to remove and
install the limiter cap on the main idle jet. I don't have one of those.
I also don't have a tach or a tang bender. Any of you guys have any
tips for a first timer on this task?
    Thanks in advance.[IMG][/IMG]

    Welcome back.

For the limiter caps, just pull them off with pliers and discard them. Once you pull them off, just count the number of turns that the jet will go back in when turning it clockwise and you will know where to start setting them from when you put it back together. I think it's 2 full turns but don't hold me to that.

For the tang, I wouldn't think that you would need to mess with that at all since you are just rebuilding the carb. The governor should still operate properly once you get the carb clean.

      HI
Once u have dealt with the carburetor .
Then, only if there is a governing issue will u need to set it up . For that u will need a infared tacho and a set of pointy nose pliers. Most importantly u will need the engine manual for the procedure.

The limiter cap was my biggest worry and confusion. What purpose are they for anyway?
        I have the service manual
        Results

I hope to not have to screw with the governor as I'm just cleaning the carburetor out.
        Thanks for the replies.
        Cheers all

The limiter cap was added some yrs ago to conform with US emission standards, just need to make sure You put the right springs back into the right holes and the governed RPM's should remain the same.
