I have an 1985 8x8 Argo with a Kolher KT17QS engine, the engine is in pieces because of a cracked piston and I am having trouble finding parts. My question is can I place a Honda GX690 into the Argo easily or with great difficultly, also does anyone know what end is on the crankshaft as the clutch piece is welded on?

The clutch is a thread on. Hold the crankshaft and unscrew the clutch. If one head is on you can put a couple feet of rope in the spark plug hole to lock up crankshaft. The clutches usually arnt extremely tight. The Hondas Iv worked with in AATVs tend to run hot and usually need a stronger governor spring to get the engine speed high enough. If you don't have the Honda yet look into kohler and briggs also. The 23 horse briggs makes a good swap and is the same engine as the new frontier model. -
