  • alternator on argo response 23HP

I swapped the motor out of my argo response and bought the wrong motor. it came with a 16amp charging system. when i run the winch it drains the battery quickly. i was wondering if anyone has some information on installing an alternator on a 23HP Briggs and Stratton. red cover. Can i go off the clutch drive? i dont have a pull start it just has a screen covering it. Thanks in advance

Contact AKranger72 he did the same engine in a max. The shaft is available in the briggs and Stratton accessorie catalog.

the old motor was a Vanguard yes? I would think swapping the stator out with the old one would be much easier.

What do you think about addin a second battery? if both drained would the 16amp charging system charge it back up?

Add on the alternator, and second battery if need be. Big cables to winch too!

How many amp/hr is your current battery?

IMHO an alternator is the only way to go as it's going to replenish the battery a lot more quickly than a lil stator setup and if it does fail you have a back up with stock system.

I agree, if Your unit is using a lot of 12v power a one wire alt is the best way to go if your handy with making brackets etc. there may be a install kit out there but I don't know about that.

I do believe this is the PTO kit but Please check with a dealer to confirm

any ideas on how to make the brackets? I'm not much of a fabricator. Thanks for the stub shaft information. would i have to pull the motor to install that stub shaft? there is a screen cover on there now.
