  • Vanguard 23HP Voltage Question

Ok , I just had to replace my starter and battery took it out for a test run , started and ran great ,,, But ,, noticed the voltage meter on the dash reading 14 Volts at idle and pegged 16volts at running speed ... Shut her down and parked back in the garage am I off base to think that the regulator is NG ? or is this normal ?
    thanks

Bill i would hook a voltmeter to yourbattery and start it just to make sure your factory meter isnt lying to you and if it reads the same it sure sounds like your regulator is bad .

I would check it with digital volt meter to know for sure.

Ok update .... Well having shrived all my life to prove the depth of ignorance and to prove amusement to the knowing I checked the voltage at the battery via the dash voltmeter .. ok 12volts ... engine off ... so I ordered and installed a new regulator from mother B&S at the princely sum of $140. ...... Installed and checked the voltage at the battery with a voltmeter... engine on and at idle 13-14volts ... at operating rpm 16volts .... Ok let me guess , a new Battery and this is the normal operating voltage .. and the old battery being on the way out was a load on the system and it's 12-14 volt readings was it's normal operating voltage...

May my shared learning save someone else from making the same ....

We Ride! and happy Trails to all ... be safe
