I just bought a scrambler 1200 with a Tecumseh 12HP tag says HH120-1201180 serial number 0069 08064. I now the HH is Heavy duty cast iron block. Its .020 over zero deck with flattop piston. What is it being .020 over? An is a flattop an zero deck normal? Year? Local air cooled engine shop told me it would out perform other 12hp motors stock. eney one running a HH120 .020 over? Eney info would be great thanks

Zero deck and flattop piston is the way they came from the factory, .020 over won't improve anything but the compression back to stock. head gasket thickness that changes the distance between the piston and head will, the closer the two are the bigger the bang.
carbs, cam and exhaust also play a big part, hold a .020 feeler gauge in your fingers and you'll see that it's nuttin' at the end of the day

Did you figure out why it's locked up?

      Joe Camel never does that.

my muscateer had an HH120 I added a plastic spacer between carb and engine cause it would get hot enough to boil out todays fuel and flood it when I shut down...PITA to be sure.

As for recoil starter look at screen on engine opposite pto side and see if has small v grrove and notch for a pull rope you would manually wind...mine did and I am sure if u dig im my thread ther is a pic somewhere.

somewhere I have a factory hh120 manual here in pdf pm me email and if I find it i will email it to u...

good luck it was an OK engine but really nothing compared to my diesel.....total night and day difference....but it was old and tired I am sure.
