  • New vanguard for the max...

So today I picked up a 14hp Briggs vanguard for my 1983 max ii. It runs good and I got it for what seems like a steal (at least around here) of $175. I do plan on doing the carb and exhaust mods to make it a 16hp. The only problem is the vacuum fuel pump has a cracked inlet, so I am trying to find a source for one if I can't rig up a way for it to work. Is there anything else that these motors have issues with that I should check before I start the engine transplant?
    Thanks in advance.

I'd make sure the starter works well, a lot easier to replace it out on the bench. many older 14's had a plastic drive gear on em'.
