Hi guys, thought I'd reach out into the 6x6 world for some help.. I'm in the process of restoring a long neglected 1970 Max II.. It's quite a process too. Luckily I don't think it actually had much run time on it.. Anyways, it was originally a JLO 295 powered machine, and I'm working on swapping in a Honda GX610.. Reason being is even though the 295 is perfectly fine, I'm not really a 2 stroke guy, never liked them. Other than the transmission clutch spring, what all else should I watch for? I've done a lot of creeping around on the forums here and have learned a lot about engine swaps and such, but Honda swaps are still sort of uncharted territory.. The part that makes this hard for me is I'm doing this on a college kid budget..
(I got the Honda for free with 5 others ranging from 11-20 hp on a truck deal a few years back) Not to load this post with too many questions, but does anyone know where I can get a clutch for this engine without draining my wallet? lol.. And what kind of options do I honestly have for a voltage regulator on it? When I got it, the engine stop diode was bad(reason it was warrantied by ditch witch, whole nother story) and it didn't have a voltage regulator on it. Has anyone used a universal regulator or something of the sort? I'm sure I'll come up with more questions, but for now this is all.. Thanks in advance to all.
