  • Fuel Pump Requirements

I have a LTV KID with a Wisconsin VH4D engine. It has an aftermarket fuel pump, and has always dogged down with load. I am thinking of trying a new pump but am not sure how to choose psi or flow rate. The VH4D is circa 1969, 30hp and carbureted. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I use Napa 610-1051 low pressure for engines up to 27 hp no problem. I doubt that Wisconsin would require any more.

Here's what I found for a manual for that engine.

One of the configurations is a gravity feed fuel tank with no fuel pump so I imagine you want to stick to low pressure; probably less than 4psi and I would look for 3 psi. Looking up the pump suggested (1.5 - 4 psi) - that one seems pretty reasonable.

Great, and thanks for the info. Any idea if there is a problem if I were to choose a pump with a slightly higher flow rate? I understand why I would need a relatively low PSI pump, but am a bit lost on flow rate specs.
