I just picked up a 1980 maxll. Seems to be in real good shape. It has a 16hp vanguard. My question is can the throttle cable be moved from the back of the motor to the front like my 18hp in my 93. This 16 hp is almost new. There is a spot where the cable can be secured to be on the front. Not sure if I can just change the spring location or tear it apart and change it around. Any input would be great. I want to order a heated cable, would rather not have to buy the 100" cable if I do not have to.

Yes the newer cable is a lot shorter and you drill the anchor hole for the cable end clamp Then move it to the other side of the bellcrank. Governor ect doesn't change.Ill look for the actual conversion instructions tomorrow but the only trick is not loose the E-clip on cable clamp when removing it. usually have to debur the drilled hole. -
