  • Vanguard 18 hp Starter Help

I did something stupid. First My starter got to were it wouldnt turn the engine over. You could tap it with a hammer and would turn over. So I decided I needed to tighten the starter cable it was loose. The same thing. So I decided to tighten the nut under the cable. Now it will do nothing. did I twist a wire off inside the starter?
    Thanks

Maybe, but check to make sure the solenoid is supplying 12 VDC to the post just to be sure.

If the voltage is not on the post, the solenoid is bad.

If the voltage is getting there, the wire may have broken inside or the bendix may be sticking.

If the battery voltage drops down quickly when trying to start, then the bendix is sticking.

If the battery voltage stays pretty constant, the wire is probably broken off internally.

I would just replace it with new one since its a bit tricky to get in N out. stay away from Imported knock offs, a Hi torque starter is double the money but will be the last starter You'll ever buy for it
