  • can I put an 18hp twin briggs in a late 70s argo?

Has anyone here removed there 16hp single tecumseh and replaced it with a twin in a late 70s argo? I have a chance to buy a 18 hp briggs and stratton twin but I'm not sure if it will fit, any input would be greatly appreciated!

Briggs v twin is a good swap for the Tecumseh. Mount bolt pattern is very close if not the same. Crank hight to base is different but shouldn't bother the Argo. Center output muffler is available from briggs or find one on eBay. Measure clutch center to center and offset before removing old engine.

I believe the difference between an OH and a Briggs for clutch lineup is simply 1 additional washer for a 1 1/4" bolt. Use a file to trim the inside where the keyway goes, it only takes a couple of quick swipes, and you should be good.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

i took out a 16 hp tecumseh and but a 16 hp b&s. removed the chasis with the engine and tranny. welded a new mount as the oil filter wont fit. i have some pics in the gallery as well. well worth the effort, but now you will have to find a drive belt. that is another story.

We tried doing the swap last year. And yes it gave us some headache with the clutch lining ups. Solution was a simple washer did solved it.
