Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice about the PTO bearings in my briggs. Its the 16 hp V-Twin. Im getting a squealing coming from the drive clutch area when the engine is cold or under heavy loads. I read in a post that sometimes these bearings fail due to low RPMs causing the pump to not deliver enough oil to the bearing. I've done some research into the bearing and some models have a bushing while others have a roller bearing. Has anybody come up against this issue before? And if you have what is the required RPM to have enough lubrication. I had lowered the RPM to facilitate easier shifting of the transmission but seems that I self inflicted a worse problem. Any help would be appreciated.

No Briggs v twin Vanguards ever used bushing bearings on the PTO side. flywheel side, Yes. I've beatin' and blown up many a vanguard and never saw a bearing failure on the pto side.
16HP used one pto bearing and 18 & up used 2, 16 to 23hp all used the same cover.

This is the bushing on the flywheel side, by the time this wears to the point it causes problems the seal is leaking and the fan shroud is full of oil.
The oil pump feeds the filter first so if its plugged or the oil is too thick when cold it may be starving the bushing.
