engine shaft

Hello all,
I'm in the process of buying an engine for a 6x6 project. Is there a shaft size that is more desirable for recreational vehicle clutches?

Try to stick with a 1" dia shaft. That will use a Comet 780 or similar clutch that cost about $200/225. If ya get a 1-1/8" dia shaft one must use the larger Comet 1190 (or sim.) that are going for $400/450. Please don't ask me why I know this

Joe is completely correct.... If you were to buy a Motor with a 1 7/16" shaft you would kick yourself in the butt trying to find a clutch that would be compatible in our machines. So take joes advice and buy a motor with a 1" or 1 1/8" shaft. Or you would buy a 1 7/16" and most likely change the crankshaft to a smaller size.
