  • Amphicat Sachs engine question

I have a black Amphicat of uncertain age (about 1970), which has a Sachs SA 290 engine. I have had the engine running, but compression is very low (about 70 psi) and starting is becoming increasingly difficult.

    I have two questions:-

Are SA 280 cylinder heads interchangeable with SA 290, in other words, can I use a 280 head on a 290 engine?

Also, can a 280 barrel be bored out to 73 mm, or more? In other words, does anyone know whether the 280 and 290 barrels are the same basic casting?

The reason I'm asking is because I have a spare 280 barrel and cylinder head.

    Thanks, for any information.

Martin, I can't help you but let me bump your thread so that hopefully one of the 2 stroke guys can chime in. Good luck.

Perhaps AATVjunkie could relay the question to the one and only and reply back to you..

        Joe Camel never does that.
