  • 18HP B&S Engine

    Hi All
slightly off topic here. I have a chance to get for free a running(low powered) 18hp B&S horizontal shaft engine. it was removed from a old craftsman lawnmower.
Model 422437, Type 266 01, Code 90022612. I want to do a .020 rebuild on it but I am unable to find a parts list for this particular model. any help would be great. I want to try to get about 23-25 HP out of it.

Are you sure it's not 422437-1266-01??

Parts lookup and repair parts diagrams for outdoor equipment like Toro mowers, Cub Cadet tractors, Husqvarna chainsaws, Echo trimmers, Briggs engines, etc.

This is the older flat head opposed twin Briggs I/C engine, the predecessor to the Vanguard series engines. Some of the lawn mower racing guys hot rod these old flat twin engines and get some pretty good horsepower out of them. heymow.com - Lawn Mower Racing Forum - Index

          Thanks guys
          Yes it is a Code 1266 01 I didn't see the 1 at first.
This engine is actually on a homemade sawmill that my Amish neighbors use. Yes we have a large Amish community here in Northern Maine.
the engine lacks power. I mentioned that it could be cheaper to rebuild it then to replace it with a larger engine. TQ is what they need.

I will look at the site above and ask questions on the best way to get the power back. I am thinking .030 over and a diff exhust to start

Yep, You can always go back and change up the compression and carb after its rebuild. small changes at time, gonna want to keep the governor so it get's tricky if ya throw to much at one time
