No Spark

Finally back on the project after a 4 year pause. Finished assembling 3 new sprockets and mounted the all axles. T20 rebuilt and back on chassis. 18 hp B&S IC rebored and sleeved. Rebuilt starter. Wiring disappeared so I am starting over. New points, condenser and armature. Mounted motor and set up wiring from key switch for test run/break in. No joy when I checked for spark. Not sure I have the primary/points/kill wiring right. Any wiring advice on this?

Are the diodes missing? Maybe disconnect the kill wires and see if u have spark.... Just a guess

Tried that no spark. Where are the diodes located?

Remove the wire coming from the switch and see what happens letting the engine stand alone, could be you have the ground side of the switch feeding the engine instead of the kill.

The ground wire from the ignition attaches to the diodes before they attach to each armature. Prevents the coils from connecting to each other is my understanding. If u remove both kill wires (with or without diodes) from the back or the coils and have the coils spaced correctly from the magnets on the flywheel you should have spark.

Removed kill wire and still no joy.
Figured out that the coil was upside down and reassembled. Still no spark.
Still trying to solve it.
Anyone got a picture of their B&S wiring?

Did you set the gap with the piece of paper spec 'd for the gap?

That should help, you could also try sanding the magnet and coil if they've been sitting, fixed my Tec...

You could pull the wire right at the coil.
The picture above looks as if the points are setting off center. Did you gap them?
by chance is the wire from the condenser barely touching the block? Are the wires (coil to condenser) isolated from the block? If all else fails put the old points and condenser in and check it(farm fix).


If someone gives you the specs you could test the coil, I have no knowledge of this.

set point gap w .020in feeler gage
set armature gap with a business card (.015-.010in)
armature and points are new.
checked coil resistance = 5000 ohms (3-5k ohms is good range)
checked condenser and wiring for grounding.
tried disconnecting kill from coil
no spark

Is it possible you've gotten an electronic ignition armature and placed it in a point ignition system? An electronic coil would eliminate the points.
Most point systems need power feed to them, not sure on this one.

I have the motor ID info which we use to order parts. I looked it up again and it shows the points and armature on the drawing.

Progress!!! I removed the condenser and got a spark. I assume that some how it is grounding out.

... Reassembled system w/ condenser check for spark along the way. Installed carb. Still have spark. I think this one is done. Next is getting it to run.

Right you are Nubs, unfamiliar with the system but after looking at the book and ready to reply as it showed the armature kill wire going directly to the points/condenser screw and the kill wire also feeding from there. The stud on the shroud (?) was only shown used on the Magnetron systems and was throwing things off a bit.
