on the 16 h.p. briggs vanguard in my max 2, the motor shaft i assume is a 1'' x3'' keyed and tapped for a 3/8'' bolt to hold on the clutch. engines for replacement in the 20 hp. range are hard to find with the tapped shaft. you need that bolt to hold on the clutch right ? any ideas on model # s etc. thanks , and have a super new year !! johnboy va.

John, all the ones seen on ebay have a tapped end, even the tapered shafts. Did not see any 20's though, consider a Bandelero?sigpic

Vanguards jump from 18 to 21hp now, only 20hp in vertical. if one hunts a bit you can find a 21hp for under 1k shipped to the doorComment

thanks guys for the replies. brand new engines has good prices on the 21 h.p. has the tapped shaft also. checked surplus center also and they seem to be a good source too. will keep you posted . j.b.Comment
