  • 23hp kohler gas in oil

My buffalo acted funny at start up,like it was trying to lockup.quick ck of the oil revealed over filled, smelled like gas.off to the shop where they rebuilt the carb, changed oil.my ? Is shouldn't the fuel shut off solenoid keep gas from draining through the carb into the crankcase or should we have replaced it also?thanks for any reply, bill.

I can quickly think of two issues, The fuel shut-off valve isn’t closing properly. Could also be that stale gas or debris from the fuel lines crumbling has caused the
Fuel float in the carburetor to stick in the open position, causing your problem.
I try to pull my left over gas out of the machine after a ride and put it into one of the gas hog vehicles or motorcycles. If you keep fuel in the tank use sta-bil or a similar product to keep it chemically fresh.

Ruptured diaphragm in fuel pump will fill crankcase with fuel also. If you were running in temps below 40 f with high humidity it could have iced up. They usually die at idle but when running they dump fuel as if choke is on. Failed fuel pumps usually drip fuel out of the vent hole on one flat side.

Yep, Ruptured diaphragm in the fuel pump, some show leaking and some don't. a bad needle and seat or fuel shut off would only cause the problem if the fuel tank was mounted higher than the carb. if the engine ran fine before this happened the fuel pump is the problem

if your the only one time owner and havent had any carb troubles at all and no history of it at all i would bet the shop who rebuilt the carb cut the anti-after switch off because it becomes an no crank issue. if they do it could let the gas flow right thur to the crankcase causing your issue. just some thoughts.
