Red hot/melting

Any idea why this red melted after batt cable hookup?

Poor connection , if you have to much corrosion or even a loose connection it could build up heat ... ??? or shorted to ground at some point ? .....What does it power / got to ?

I had it on the wrong pole (M) on key switch...chassis ground melted too

Happens every time if not fused
