Have access to a generac gt990 engine for really cheap. Hardly any hours on it. Is it even possible to use one of these in a 1997 argo response?

If not, what is the options? A machine shop? Could the crank be modified to fit a clutch?

Ok, so I found a guy that gave me more info on the generac motors. He can also get me parts. He said there is no charging system so I will need a new fly wheel, stator, ect. He can get me a different crank to do away with the tapered shaft. He also can get the intake and carb. Probably be at about $800 in total parts. He said with gasoline in the 999cc it will be at about 40hp and 68 ft lbs torque! Not sure if my argo can handle that kind of tq. Lol
But I'm getting king of excited!

992cc generac and a 23hp vanguard, generator models never came with a governor or charging system. a one wire alternator would be far cheaper and easier to install, keep in mind that the crankshaft will not come out without removing the pistons and rods.
they will run 4,000 rpms without a problem or any modifications

? popped in my head. Had to read this twice as I missed the Generator models part , very informative for potential buyers. Does the flywheel come with magnets or no?sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Had often seen generator engines cheap and pondered them, I guess its would be an option if you blew your engine and had all good parts needed or picked up a vertical for near nothing for a conversion. There are plenty of low hour non producing generators out there also.
Other than a crankshaft the alternator may be the way to go, unless you could make a clutch fit the crank.sigpic
