I have a 780 Comet drive clutch with a 1" bore that I need to use with a 18hp Briggs. The issue is i don't know how to make it work. When I put it on the shaft, it goes all of the way to the crankcase. There is no shoulder to keep it from being too close to the crankcase. It hits bolt heads. The other issue is that the crankshaft is about 2 3/4" and the clutch it 4 3/4". I guess I need a 2 1/2" spacer for the shaft and then there is the "washer" for the end. Where do I get that from? I just need some insight to this situation or where to get these parts from.

A 1" SAE flat washer will fit the shaft tight enough to stop on the inner bevel on the crankshaft. If you use washers make sure they don't contact the seal. The shorter shaft is only a problem with the key working into the open area and can be held in place with a piece of plastic tube cut to length. Once you get clutch to clear crankcase measure for the bolt to secure the clutch. Make sure it gets tight before bottoming out in the crankshaft as you can damage the threads. Hope this helps out.

OK, I am good with using the 1" washers to space the clutch away from the crankcase. The real problem is the 1" bore goes all of the way through the clutch. what should I be using to be able to tighten down the 3/8" bolt onto the clutch. I think I need a "cup washer" but I can't seem to find where to get one.

That's funny. I just came from Tractor Supply with some things to make my own. Also, I found 16 Ga machine spacers and one of them was enough to get it away from the crankcase. Thank you for the advice.Borrowing tools is for the weak.
