  • I'm off track, straighten me out, please.

So after 3 days of playing with 2 old machines that have been sitting 2 years I'm a little fried.
1st is an 86 I/c with a Kohler m18 got it going 2nd after walking away from the other, this received new fuel line, fuel, fuel filter, fuel pump and of course cleaned carb. Runs great just won't shut off. Easy enough to remedy with a little thought away from it.

2nd is a2001 Bigfoot with the 18 b&s, again new fuel, fue line, fuel filter, cleaned carb ( more times than I'll admit), and did fuel pump, and adjusted valves to about.008.
Problem even after repeated cleanings, which each time helps with the idle, it accelerates like crap with a major bog and sometimes its raspy on the top end.
So what am I forgetting, done this repeatedly with a cure til now.

Chime in and get me back on track.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Did you check the govenor set up.
My BF was slow for years and just recently played with the governor. What a change.

No Marc I didn't check it, once over the bog it pulls fine but the bog is excessive and my 16 or Lindsay's machine with transplanted 16 would eat it for lunch. This thing is not happy. I'd hate to get a carb. only to find out it's me.

        Hi Jim,
Does pulling out the choke when it bogs help it? That would tell you it is starving for fuel.

just had the same problem with 2 stihl chainsaws at work.pulled the carbs off and cleaned them twice but still had trouble.found that if you pull the welch plugs out and clean a carburetor the CORRECT way, things run much better.lol

Yes Dave choke helps some, but chokes it out, even with as much 2+2 that has been through it I probably have to remove it and ultrasonic it as plott recommends.
