Throttle cable question

I've just about got my Hustler complete, and I've been able to take a test drive. I'm not happy at all with the throttle set up.

I have the duckbill throttle control and I'm using just plain old throttle cable and sheathing like you would see on a lawn mower (wire coiled sheath with the wire center). My dissatisfaction is with friction. There is just enough friction that I can't ease the rpm's up. Squeezing the throttle enough to overcome the friction makes it impossible to ease into the throttle. The wire is well lubricated and it's not kinked anywhere. I got rid of all the governor linkage to eliminate that friction. I also had to add a spring at the carb to return it to idle.

What type of cable do you guys use on the throttle and does it work smoothly? Or, is this just something I've got to live with?

We run the heated throttle cables in our machines but we use them in the in winter up here in Michigan.

I also use mountain bike brake levers as the throttle grip. I don't know if it will work with the duckbill lever you have but the cable slides very nice in this sheath.

I bought what JoeMeg said above at my local bike shop for the same issue you are having. It appears someone thought a motorcycle cable worked well as a throttle cable on my max. While it worked it definitely took some force to use. The new bike cable is smooth as silk.

I tired a couple of aftermarket wire throttle cables. They didn't work. So I purchased a factory twisted cable OEM cable for the Max II. Now It works smoothly and I could kick my self for wasting my money on the cheap wire cables.

Thanks for the advice guys. I just might live with what I have for a little while and then spring for the $38 to buy a hustler cable. Maybe I can encounter some other machines somewhere and actually feel the throttle movement compared to mine.
