  • Bandolero fuel

The Li'ltruck was getting a little pingy by the end of the hare scramble and I'm wondering if I'm not running high enough octane fuel. Does anyone know what the Bando requires? Lately I've been using 87 octane non-ethanol pump gas.

Check out page 15 of this PDF, item number 9: http://www.uslegendcars.com/documents/bandoleros1.pdf (The page is actually numbered 82) That says that Briggs recommends 92 octane

I always run premium in mine, typically it's 93 octane but I have sometimes had to use 91.

Geez would I ever like to get to one of these American rides again. They sound and look like so much fun. One question,-I didn't know that Bandolero made two stroke engines??

Exactly. They don't; that's why I'm in such need of advice. I'm not used these garden-equipment engines (joking, just joking....)

I put an oil cooler on my Bandolero after running it at Ashtabule 2 years ago (wide open the whole time).

I wonder if what you experienced had anything to do with overheating.

Last year I was running 50/50 with 100 low-lead avgas and 87 non-ethanol and had no (engine) problems and no pinging. I'm not sure what the temp was, but I assumed it was just the fuel mix. 'something to think about, though.

The guy who built my Bandolero" engines used to be the head builder at 600 racing. He recommended all the octane you can find

                      Thanks, all.

Question: will lead hurt these? I can run high octane stuff but most of it is pretty heavily leaded.

Too much lead gums up the valves. I run a mix of 91 nonethenal and 100 avgas

Sounds like the hare scramble isn't easy on any engine.

TEL (lead) is an octane booster and used as a valve seat lubricant before hardened valve seats. too much may foul your plug but should not harm the engine. I believe Whipper runs Avgas in all his v twins.
