I have a few questions of what I can do for a performance upgrade. What I have is a stock 1996 B&S 14hp Vanguard OHV V-twin engine and of course I like to increase the top end speed over the 3600 governed RPM's. So I have a few questions of what non-radical updates I can make.
1.- What is the limit over 3600 rpm's on a stock engine? and what is the safe zone?
2. Rev Kits ~~ What is the limit of RPMs after installation with a stock cam and again what is the safe zone?
*Do I need to remove the internal part of the governor or just disconnect on top?
2. What will the power curve be like using the existing timing key with the rev kit? and what is changed in power curve by using the new timing key (30 deg I believe) with the rev kit?
3. What kind of increase may I see?
4. What other ideas or suggestions/update can I make without breaking the bank?
Hotter/better/brand plugs?- coils? - open air filter setup? 16hp carb on 14hp block make that much of a difference since its just a hair bigger venturi? Exhaust restrictors will be removed. Just want to hear ideas from you guys already out there that done this stuff.
5. Anyone ever try a 1-1/4 in wide belt with success? instead of the 1-3/16 wide recommended belt.
I plan on using Redline synthetic oil 5W-30 and a K&N air filter.
