Ok guys I have a cuyuna 440 points engine i have an intermediate spark on.pulled flywheel filed and set points and put flywheel back on and spun over tada I had spark!! then i spin over again and I have no spark!! I ordered points and condensors from MFG supply but was wanting to pick someones brain on why this would happen?? condensors maybe goin? no clue!!

hey Dave i have just redone both my super chiefs. They would get hot and quit firing on one cylinder. i replaced everything staters coils points and condensers.
i did not want to have to tare it all back down if i guessed wrong. but i'm inclined to think that the condensers go bad after years of use and age.

If the points look pitted from arcing, the condenser is going bad.

Ok, Thanks fellas I'll wait for parts and change them out and go from there,anyone ever installed new condensors without removing the stator plate???? I think I'm gonna give it a try because I've read the horror stories of timing these motors!!!

This engine has never been touched since 76 I dont believe!

Timing isn't really all that difficult. If you don't care to try your hand at it, just scribe a line across the stator plate and the housing. Once you slap in new points/ condensers, line them back up as a safe starting point for the timing.

She lives!! Fired it up in the vice!! Haven't made timing light yet but still going to. Anyone run this walbro carbs that comes on these motors?? Don't know the model but the fuel pump is on the top and it has a bowl with floats in it.

I have an old skiwhiz snowmobile jlo/400 with a walbro it works good when running but would vapor-lock when hot and hard to start when cold. plus the intake did not have much of a filter.

Lol. Thanks Jim!! Prolly put a Mikuni on it!! Things are coming along. Abs repair my next step I guess. Kinda dredding this step!!
