  • Making your own throttle cables.

I have the kit to fabricate my own throttle cables and have only used it once. Is there a special solder you are supposed to use on the cable ends? Is one solder better than another for holding the ends on?

I spent way over 100 bucks for a throttle cable for my max from richard, it was an inch too long. Now its rigged to make it work.

Do the cables for the Hondas work on Mikuni carbs?

Yea but I have 2 carbs. I may have to fab something from a dual cable from my snowmobile parts.

To keep the ends from fraying I usually cut it with a torch and it melts it all together. I have also used my welder to cut it to. Put the ground on the cable and turn amps up and you only have to tap the spot once and its cut and has a non fraying end.

For cutting this small diameter (throttle) cable, I use a pair of curved jaw Vice-Grips. They have a wire cutter at the base of the jaw. I have the 10 inch ones. (10WR is cast into the lower jaw.) Makes a nice clean cut. (I believe the 4 or 6 incher also have that cutter.) I've actually cut up to 3/16 inch cable with these. Just tighten the screw until the jaws lock without any cable in them. Then open, insert cable, and lock shut. If it don't cut, smack the lower jaw with a hammer. DONE. Also gives a nice cut for the casings.
It's all just nuts and bolts.
