My 1996 MAX II, w/B&S 14HP Vanguard twin, the exhaust manifold had a straight out flange to an integral corrugated stainless flex pipe with stainless braid. When that along with the original muffler rusted/burned out, I replaced with a manifold and muffler from Richards Relics that had a 90 degree elbow, to which a piece of stainless flex pipe was attached with a clamp...they sell all parts as a kit or individually. For me the replacement was flawless and made a tremendous difference. My understanding is the manifold offered fits the 14-18 B&S Vanguards. I should point out, that the manifold with the integral corrugated/braid flex pipe was no longer available. and that the new style flex pipe is not as flexible as the corrugated, so the 90 degree elbow is custom welded to the exhaust manifold to allow attachment of the new flex pipe.
