  • engine wont shutoff. shutoff diode ??

i have a honda 24hp in a coot.I went to shut off and would not.
it does sometimes. the ign switch seems to be good i checks shows good.
I read about a shutoff diode that goes bad ??
if this is the case and if that diode goes bad wouldnt it be dangerous not to
be able to shut engine off ?? and could I wire another shutoff ??
    thanks for any help

I am not incredibly familiar with the Honda, but on a Briggs & a Kohler if a diode goes bad the engine will only get fire on one cylinder. I will idle fine, but have no power. Engine will still shut off. I would assume the Honda would be the same way. Some engines are wired to turn off by the fuel shut off solenoid. If that's the case removing power from the solenoid shuts it off. Sometimes those solenoids stick open. If your engine shuts off by grounding the coils, I would start by checking for loose connections
