I might have a pawl rebuild kit for that. I had a small engine shop and still have parts left over. Need to know which engine you have or post a pic of the recoil removed from the engine.

I purchased a kit and also a new nylon rope (either ebay or an online snowmobile shop - can't remember. ) to rebuild my 503 rotax pull start a few years ago. The only bad thing was that one of the new plastic parts broke right away (and it never did fit properly) and I ended up reusing an old part.

        smooth pullstarter

perhaps you could rough up the inner part of the cup by adding a couple of weld tacks, in a balanced manner

actually, i did just the opposite. i took a dremmel and cut a few spots in the cup for the starter pawl to engage. seems to work fine. i got a spare engine for the machine a few weeks ago so now i see what it's supposed to look like

Hi Racerone I just looked at one from a Rotax 250 twin . It has grooves in it about every 1/4 inch. They are not very deep, maybe 1/16 inch. You could probably cut them with a hacksaw blade.
