  • Argo Rad Fluid?

Noticed that my Rad fluid is at the "Add" level on a 07 Avenger. It says to use a 50/50 Gylcol Water mix but I was not sure if most people just buy a standard antifreeze or mix a solution and use that?

hi Puzle, pre mix or mix it yourself 50/50 is what you want. If my antifreeze level is at the "add" line when the engine has completely cooled and the rad has sucked the fluid back in from the overflow bottle because the cooled fluid has shrunk and caused a vacumn, I call it good to go. If you fill the bottle at that point I find that the bottle will be over filled when the engine gets up to operating temp. and forces the excess fluid out, fills the bottle to the top,and the fluid out around the hole that the overflow tube is in. I would be interested to know if you have the same experience.

The engine is cold at this point so I will check today with it running to see if it changes. And thanks for the reply.

        Hope this helps...

From the Argo manual for types of Antifreeze based on the engine type...
        Coolant Recommendations - Kohler Aegis
Use equal parts of ethylene glycol (anti-freeze) and water only. Distilled or deionized water is recommended, especially in areas where the water contains a high mineral content. Propylene glycol based anti-freeze is not recommended.

        Coolant Recommendations - Kawasaki
Type: Permanent type of anti-freeze; green coloured Mixed Ratio: 50% mixed

From Kohler Engine Manual on changing the coolant...
        3. Fill radiator with coolant mixture. Allow coolant to drain into lower areas. Fill overflow reservoir to a level between FULL and ADD marks. Reinstal radiator and reservoir caps.
        4. Start and run engine for five minutes. Stop engine and allow to cool.
        5. Recheck coolant level in reservoir. Coolant level should be between FULL and ADD marks. Add coolant to reservoir if required.
