My 16hp vanguard is started to produce a black deposet on the spark plugs only takes about 5hours runing till it starts miss only have 90lb compreshon not useing oil runs good till the plugs are done alot of black in the muffler pipe it was getting oil in the carb filter so i took the crankase off and put a line into a bottle to see what would happen very little oil

First check compression with throttle open. 90 is low. Next question, does the oil smell of fuel? If oil is diluted it ruins plugs and being thinned out it gets in air filter. Most common causes for oil dilution are. # 1 airfilter , had them look new and still choke out an engine. #2 bad diaphragm in fuel pump leaking fuel into crankcase. # 3 choke not properly open. #4 carburetor ice in temps below 40 degrees F. Also could be carb dumping fuel that fouls plugs. A few things to check,hope you find it. -

Float has a hole in it...... keeps needle open. Choke might be part way on. Running rich.Comment
