  • wanting to learn more!

i want to learn more about how engines work and every single part in a small engine so i can outsmart my buddys in school when they are talking about their skidoos breaking down or so i can help them when their quads not running right. someone post a link or just show me on here how an engine works and the parts of them. i know the basic stuff but want to know deep inside an engine and remember it and never forget it!

The best resource for you is going to be youtube. You have everything from animations to rebuild videos to choose from. Those should help visualize everything better than we could ever describe here. Maybe post some videos in this thread that you find useful?

curtis, also try and find any old motors like on mowers, tillers etc. and start tearing them apart. then you have something to look at when checking out utube. it's amazing how many good motors are thrown into our local dumpsite on different implements that would be what you need. maybe a local small engine repair place will give you one. have fun..... johnboy va.

Curtis I commend you on your desire for more knowledge. You don't seem to fit the mold of the typical young person these days, which I think is good. As you explore and learn more about how things work, I want to encourage you to also learn why they work. Knowing both the how and why will take you a long way toward trouble shooting and solving problems. If you know a good mechanic (on up there in years) in your area, go hang out with him and learn. It doesn't matter if he's working on lawnmowers or bulldozers, you can learn a lot.

Curtis....somehow I remember you wanting to fly, and having some stick time....consider hooking up with an airframe/engine mechanic at a local airport....volunteer to assist with annual inspections.....a good A&E mechanic will give you hands on knowledge of engines that will amaze you....and you will gain a working knowledge of both the engine and airframe that will be invaluable if you do pursue your flight lessons.....while I never did get my license, I did this and today have an appreciation for why aircraft engines get better care than any other engine.
