Summer Camp Engine Update

The second image is very perplexing! How did whatever was in there "walk" one way or the other and not drop to the bottom! And still not be found! Image one seems to show that whatever it was went from top down through the rings...but how it jumped 90 degrees to other position and not score the rings? Was engine running when you got it? Or was it DOA from the start? Maybe previous owner did something dumb?

NO, I completely rebuilt it and drove it in a machine three years ago. It has spent the last couple of years sitting in my garage on a shelf waiting to be used in something else. It ran fine.

the fact that the grooves are not parallel to the piston travel tells me that something with some size to it was floppin' around in a port and hitting the skirt. a piece looks to have dropped into the the bottom end and back up the side by the wrist pin

Must be something. I put a new cylinder, piston, rings in and it still won't start.

Good compression in both cylinders, good spark, good fuel, timing checked. I don't get it.

Scott the last Jlo I had with the problems your having bad crank seals one motor kept blowing the center seal on me.only other thing I can think of right now.

if you spray starting fluid into the carb will it at least hit or run for just a second or two?

I'm on board with the bad crank seals.. safe bet that a piece of whatever did the damage ended up in a seal/bearings

I can get it to run a second or two but it does that bog thing when I give it gas and it dies. I have fuel going to it, we checked that.

Yup; seen this before. You've got bears. They love two-strokes.

Yes defiantly sounds like a seal problem
