  • Help with my first argo (tecumseh)

I am fixing up an old argo it's my first experience with one. I think it's about 1984 . It has a tecumseh oh180-180017c
It starts up and runs but after a short while It blows oil out of the valve cover breather hole. I stopped by a small engine shop and told the guy what was going on he didn't want to help all that much just told me to bring it in and that I shouldn't run it and that some thing is probably plugged. But that doesn't really make sense to me I have checked the engine parts schematic and don't see an oil pump so I think it must be splash lube? Is this a common thing with these engines? Is there supposed to be a pcv valve in the cover it's just a hole with a channel that's open on one side

Hey Johnb533 welcome to the site. I don't know specifically about your engine but here are some things to consider.
    1) Is it overfilled with oil?
    2) Are you driving on steep terrain such that the oil is getting into places it shouldn't?
    3) Perhaps the engine has internal splash guards that have come loose.
    4) Worn out piston rings causing blow-by, which is blowing oil out the breather tube. A compression test will rule this out.
    5) Looking at a diagram it looks like there should be a breather tube connected to the valve cover. Sounds like yours is missing. It might serve you well to try to find one or fashion one from some rubber hose.

Let us know what you find.
