  • Briggs Vanguard 16 hp query

Does this engine have the ring restrictions in the exhaust ports?

If so, how are they best removed and what can I expect from the engine once they are removed? Is rejetting the carb necessary?

Anyone who has done this on this specific model engine, ,,,,I’d much appreciate your comments and guidance.

Mine is a 2006 model with very low hours on it.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Both my 16 briggs had them. Easiest way to remove them is take exhaust off, pull restrictors out with pliers. Rejetting is not "necessary" but you may end up rejetting. I rejet just about every engine. They all run lean for emissions.

Much appreciate the reply. After hunting season when servicing and going through mine, I’m going to heat wrap the exhaust and I’ll remove these restrictions before wrapping the internal exhaust system.

One last question. Did you notice any real world performance/power gains from removing those ?

        Thanks again.

Removing those, rejetting and bypassing the governor makes a nite and day difference.
