  • Briggs 16 backfiring

Carb was filthy when I got the Argo. Overhauled carb and it seemed to run great for a test run. Adjusted needle for best idle...turn clockwise until it stops and then out 1.5 turns and rocked back and forth to get best idle. moving it several turns seemed to have no effect on idle smoothness. Another test run just for the heck of it. Power now very low and backfiring through carb. Further adjustment of needle has doesn't make anything any better.
Motor starts ok and will idle at ~900 rpm, just bogs and pops when I need power. hood is off so I can see governor working and seems to be doing it job.

    Any ideas?

If partial choke helps clean carb again, if accompanied by any smoke pull valve covers check pushrods.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Yep. Found a exhaust pushrod laying loose. Thought it was broke but it was just talking around. Hopefully a valve adjustment will get me going again. Still need to find why idle adjustment has little/no effect on idle quality...maybe intake leak.
