  • Kohler Magnum 20HP Engine issues

    Hello Everyone,

I'm not very mechanically inclined and wondering if I can get some help. I own a max 4 with 20hp kohler Magnum engine and it recently stopped running. Upon trying to start it, it's wants to turn over, but i'ts spitting gas up through the air tube that's housed in the air filter compartment. It might be a mixer of gas and oil. Anyone know what this might be from?

    SIncerely,

    Joel

    Check your oil level

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Thanks for the tip. I did check it and it appeared to be fine. However, the dipstick also smelled of gas. Any other thoughts or ideas?

Check the fuel pump impulse line for gas. If it is there the fuel pump diaphragm may be bad.

Your carb float valve is not working. The carb becomes flooded and then floods into the crankcase. That is the reason your oil smells like gas. You need to resolve the seat problem and then drain all oil and refill. Take the carb off and make sure the float is working and clean the valve and where it seats.

Those are really good engines , for some reason the float is or was set to high to begin with . Not sure if it's got something to do with older models and different manufactured floats and they kept the same required float set up . Setting the plastic float bowl a little below level they work best . You'll notice the difference right away when all it takes is a bump of the key .
