  • kolher magnum 18hp throttle linkage fault

just bought a pair of 1991 8x8 argo magnums as non runners,
got the first one running but wont rev up on twist grip.
the cable pulls on the lever on the side of the carb that then goes to a linkage on engine by pulling on a spring.
but it just stretches the spring ,and the lever arm on engine that goes to the throttle butterfly flap on carb the opisite side barely moves.
nothing seized and works if the linkage worked by hand.
have swapped the springs over too.
can anybody help with a photo of what it should all look like.or send me a link to a workshop page od the setup

you can get a manual for your engine @ The Power More Professionals Demand - Kohler Engines (you can only get on as a guest late in the evening)
the lever on the engine is the governor. i haven't been far enough into my engine to know exactly how it hooks up internally, but that arm should move freely when the engine is not running. try spraying a little penetrating oil where the govenor shaft goue into the crank case. it may just be gunked up from sitting

      Koehler engine

Have to go with Racerone on this one , lube all of the gov and throttle linkage they do tend to get very stiff if they have been sitting , if the problem was with the govener internal the engine would not even run , download the manual .

all of the linkage is moving freely,
were should the throttle return spring be?
mine is a straight spring going from throttle butterfly spindle to l/h side of the govener arm, seems to me that this spring is wrong or too strong, all that happens when throttle operated is the other spring as shown in thumb nail just streches without moving arm thus not moving throttle arm on carb.can any body post a photo to show what it should look like.

the pic in my first post shows how it should be. there should be a linkage from the governor to the throttle shaft, not a spring.
