  • 440 Cuyuna

There is a guy selling a good running 440 Cuyuna on craigslist for 195.00 is that good deal?

    this is the the ad
I have a 440 Cuyuna snow mobile engine. I pulled it out running in the spring and the sled had only 905 miles on it. I have the wiring harnesses to go with it.I have put one of these in a golf cart and made a wheely machine out of it. This is a good running engine

    What do ya all think?

    Hi:
The JLO 440 is a relatively common engine. The JLO/Cuyuna 6-Bolt head has a bit more power, but I don't think it's that rare either, althought not as common. I would check with Don or H-Mike about the price and also what new compression should be, +/- 150psi I would think. If it looks good, no damage, and GOOD compression, maybe? Or look for a Whip/Scorpion sled with a 440. I've seen complete sleds in poor condition but with running 440s listed at UNDER $100.00. Of course, you may have to rebuild the engine, but then your starting fresh. And some of the parts off the sled can be sold. You just may end up carting the damaged parts to the scrapyard, or try posting a "For Free" on a vintage sled forum. Just my .02.

It depends on what you want, I guess. The Cuyuna 440 is a good engine, but there are more dependable and higher performance two-strokes out there that are also pretty common and relatively cheap, too. I'd check it out really well and do a compression test before I put any money down.

      Good luck
