  • Kohler Starting Problem

I'm trying to get my 77 Argo w/ Kohler 440 started. I have spark and fuel, but no combustion.

The previous owner just put a new carb kit in and had it running. He said he stalled the motor by accelerating too fast. Since then it will not start. He did not have time to adjust the timing, but was told by a dealer that was the probably what it needs.

Any other thoughts before I tear things down to adjust the timing?

Before anything, try some new spark plugs.I have had plugs that were brand new but had been wet fouled not ignite the engine ,but would spark out of the engine. You should also insure you have the correct plugs,I bought a running machine that ran rich and no pep,I was getting ready to check the timing and decided to pull the plugs(They were wrong).Changed plugs and engine would run to max RPM, even in high.
