  • MAX IV won't stay running

New to this site, hope you all can help.

I have a MAX IV I purchased five years ago. It has a Briggs and Stratton Engine. Its stored inside and only has about 50 hours on it.

I can start it with the choke on, but as soon as try to throttle it up, the engine dies. I checked the fuel line as well as the fuel filter and there is no problem with either of them.

After the fuel filter, the line goes into a small black sealed plastic piece. In other words, this is found between the fuel filter and carb.

What exactly is this sealed black plastic piece? Is it possible that this is the source of my problem?

Any info you can supply is appreciated so I can get back to using my MAX.

    Thanks.

Robbie - thanks for the quick response. Something I failed to mention that may be key for you to help diagnose this. There is minimal gas in the fuel filter - maybe 1/8 of in inch worth while it is running. Wouldn't this point towards the fuel pump being the problem versus simply "bad gas"?

take the line off at the fuel pump and blow thru and see if the line has some gunk in it 2 make shure your your gas cap is working they vent thru it then check your carb take your breather off and then the top of the carb and see if the flot bowel is full now is a goodd time to clean out the jets with break clean or carb cleaner might have to remove the jets and soake if it has had gas stored in it with out staybull . hope this helps . robbie

I would put money on trash in the carb. If you pull the top of the carb off and see any sediment in the bowl at all, you will need to flush all of the ports like Robbie mentioned. Just don't forget the main port near the bottom of the bowl.

                  Robbie - I'm in CT

Mike - thanks for your thoughts.

I'll get on this project this coming weekend and will report my success or failure back to you.
